WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FISCAL CLIFF, ITS COMPONENTS AND IMPLICATIONS

The "fiscal cliff" is a term used describe a bundle of momentous U.S. federal tax increases and spending cuts that are due to take effect at the end of 2012 and early 2013. In total, the measures are set to automatically slash the federal budget deficit by $503 billion between FY 2012 and FY 2013, according to the most recent Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projections (PDF). If these numbers are converted to calendar year 2013, however, this contraction would be substantially higher, close to 4 percent of GDP. The abrupt onset of such significant budget austerity in the midst of a still-fragile economic recovery has led most economists to warn of a double-dip recession and rising unemployment in 2013 if Washington fails to intervene in a timely fashion.

But many analysts questions what action, if any, will be taken either in the lame duck session of the 112th Congress or in the early days of 2013. While legislative inaction could have deleterious economic effects in the short term, analysts say putting off or cancelling all of the measures without a longer-term deficit deal in place would be equally dangerous for the U.S. economy.

I WILL BUY MY OWN JET TOO---BISHOP TOM SAMSON BLASTS CRITICS

Bishop Tom Samson of Christ Royal Family International Church speaks His mind on the raging issue of pastors having private jets.

"Don’t the state governors own jets? Doesn’t the President have a jet? Does the Nigerian government give everybody money to buy food? No. They only make facilities available. The Bible says it will give you power to get wealth. The government only provides the enabling environment for you to be comfortable in life by providing jobs. When I was going to Abuja the other day, I spent three hours at the airport. On another occasion, I was coming from Abuja for a meeting in Lagos,

2 ARRESTED OVER THE MURDER OF AFGHAN TEENAGER

Police in northeastern Kunduz province have arrested two men suspected of the near-decapitation of a 15-year-old girl after the rejection of a marriage proposal, according to a district chief.
One of the alleged suspects had proposed to the girl, Gaiseena, through her family last year, but she had rejected him, said Amanuddin Quraishi, chief of Imam Sahib district.
The two men allegedly attacked and killed her on Monday about a hundred meters from her house, while she was bringing water for her family, he said.
Quraishi, the top person at the local level, could not confirm whether the suspects were relatives.
Kunduz is the same province where four Afghan Local Police (ALP) officers this month were sentenced -- two of them for 16 years -- for raping a woman.
The Interior Ministry controls ALP, a separate entity from the Afghan National Police that critics liken to an unchecked armed militia.
In that case, the 18-year-old's mother said rape had brought shame upon the family and that without government help, her daughter should be killed.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE SCARES ME----MALLAM SANUSI

Mallam Sanusi stated this in Calabar, Cross River State, in a lecture titled Employment Skills, Values, Opportunities and Challenges of University Graduating Students at the annual University of Calabar lecture series.
He noted that with the expanding opportunities for university education in Nigeria, which are without corresponding increase in job openings, the unemployment situation in Nigeria can only get worse.

OPINION: PASTOR TONY RAPU'S STAND ON PASTOR AYO ORITSEJAFOR'S PRIVATE JET

The controversy surrounding Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s recent receipt of the gift of a jet has cast a harsh glare of scrutiny on the Church and its leaders. It has also caused no small dissension among pastors and Christians. This has been amplified by the social media where the vigorous debate has gone viral. As president of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, he is seen not only as an important and influential figure in Christian circles but also, the most prominent

RAPE IS A VILE AND ITS VICTIMS ARE NOT TO BLAME

Chidi Anselm Odinaku

Violence against women is a dreadfully brutal and pervasive crime. In many countries, those who are responsible for preventing, eliminating and ensuring accountability for it mostly fail to recognise it as such, tolerate it or simply blame the victims for being violated. On the 31st Anniversary of the International Day of Action on Violence against Women – November 25, law enforcement and public officers in Nigeria must commit to a programme of action to change this.

On Friday, November 23, 2012, I attended a workshop

OUR OPINION: DO NOT FALL FOR THE PHCN PROMO. IT IS A SCAM!

You do not treat people as fools and yet expect the best from them. It is highly unjust, when we expect our followers to deliver greater than the value we place on them. When the formal American president, Bill Clinton was publicly accused of having affair with Monica Lewinsky, after he tried to sweep it away and could not, he swallowed his pride and publicly acknowledged the affair and he was forgiven. When leaders begin to act like gods that do not err, catastrophe will always dictate the pace at every point in time. This is exactly what is happening in leadership in the country.

So, it was a great surprise to me, when I saw a document attached to my electricity bill of a Promo

DOES THE NATIONAL ANTHEM INSPIRE YOU?

Azuka Onwuka

I don’t understand what the Germans say in their national anthem, but anytime I hear the tune during a World Cup match or other sporting event, I feel like shedding tears. Maybe, it is because the tune is the same as that of a church hymn I know and love: “Austria”. Maybe, it is because the tune is soulful and yet uplifting. Whatever the reason, the tune of the German anthem feels good. I never lived in George Orwell’s Animal Farm with Snowball, Napoleon and co, but any time I sing the “Beasts of England” anthem in that little but powerful book, I get close to tears. The tune and the words can make someone kill for his fatherland.
I am a graduate of the University of Nigeria, and any time I hear the anthem of that university, I feel a deep sense of nostalgia and feel proud that I am a product of that institution. The anthem of UNN makes all Lions and Lionesses feel like a special breed of graduates. When students and graduates of UNN chant the refrain of their anthem, they feel they can conquer the world:

“My Alma Mater, my Alma Mater,
Noble are thy looks and thy ideals;
And great art thou in Science and in Art.
In other realms of learning,
Thou art all sublime.”

I did my National Youth Service Corps programme with joy, but right from the orientation camp to this day, any time I hear the anthem of the

TO WHOSE INTEREST IS THE EXHUMATION OF THE FORMAL PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT, YESSER ARAFAT?

Swiss, French and Russian experts will take samples to establish whether his death in Paris in 2004 at the age of 75 was the result of poisoning.
France began a murder inquiry in August after Swiss experts found radioactive polonium-210 on his personal effects.
Arafat's medical records say he had a stroke resulting from a blood disorder.
His widow, Suha, objected to a post-mortem at the time, but asked the Palestinian Authority to permit the exhumation "to reveal the truth".
Arafat's body lay in a stone-clad mausoleum inside the Muqataa presidential compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The mausoleum was

10 REASONS WHY A WOMAN SHOULD BE THE NEXT CIA NUMBER ONE

Choosing a woman isn't just about narrowing the intelligence community gender gap. It's also about drawing from the whole pool of talent to ensure the best national security apparatus and responding to Americans' apparent desire for more women in government. Here are the Top 10 reasons President Obama should name a woman as the next CIA director.

1) It would inspire more women to enter the fields of foreign policy and intelligence. The intelligence and foreign policy community is predominantly male. According to a 2009 report published by Women in International Security, women comprise about 13% of the Senior Intelligence Service, and between 21% and 29% of key agencies that grapple with national security matters, like the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Defense. That should be rectified.

2) The November 6 elections showed Americans want to see more women in senior government positions. Women make up 20% of the Senate,

I AM NOT ASHAMED TO OWN A PLANE. IT IS NOT A LUXURY--PASTOR ORITSEJAFOR BLASTS. A MUST READ INTERVIEW

Well, let me begin like this, this is a major issue, especially now that I have just been presented with a gift of a jet. That makes it a major issue. Let me say here that every pastor must be conscious of the people he pastors. It is very important. I can tell you that as a pastor for 40 years now, if you talk to people that are genuinely my members, they will tell you the kind of pastor that am I.
If you watched me today, I was talking about a young man who has been trying to go to a university for three years now. I didn’t know him from Adam. One day, after a service here, one of my pastors brought him to me. As soon as he saw me, he held my legs and began to cry! He showed me all the papers, pleading that he had tried to gain admission to any university here, it never worked.
So he finally got admission to study in Cyprus. I paid his school fees, helped him with ticket and everything he needed, he’s gone. He has since resumed school and is there in Cyprus now. How many people will know that? In the last s even to eight years now, I have paid school fees of over 100 people in different universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Some of them have graduated and have come here to share their testimonies, excitements and even their parents have come here to thank us. I don’t know them from anywhere. Every December 26, I do a very big thing here. We call it poverty alleviation.
This year, December 26, we will equally do it. Last December 26, I gave out about six brand new cars to people; your denomination means nothing.

WORLD MOST EXPENSIVE CAR PARK SPACE

Nestled within Hong Kong's dense skyscraper jungle, a $640,000 property sits among some of the world's most expensive commercial and residential spaces. The price might sound like a steal. This Asian financial capital has the world's priciest property, according to Savills. Since the start of 2010, average Hong Kong home prices have doubled. But the price tag mentioned here is neither for a home nor an office.
It is for a parking space: A slab of undecorated concrete, stained by black motor oil, about 8-feet-by-16-feet in size. Price per square foot: nearly $5,000.
Jacinto Tong has owned and used this space for the past ten years. Described in local media as "the tycoon of parking spaces," he is effusive when talking about this particular "priceless" gem.
"I think this is the best car park space I ever had," said the CEO of Gale Well Group, a property

WILL A CATHOLIC NATION, IRELAND REVIEW HER ABORTION STAND BECAUSE OF SAVITA'S DEATH? A MUST READ!

MAIDUGUIRI MASSACRE: ABOUT 20 YOUNG LADIES WERE KILLED FOR WEARING TROUSERS, BUM SHORTS AND MINI SKIRTS

Wonder shall never end.It is so disheartening that Maiduguri is gradually moving towards a failed state, where lawlessness is given a platform to thrive. About 10 people were reported to have been killed by unknown gun men yesterday. About twenty ladies who were wearing mini skirts, bum shorts and trousers were slaughtered in their separate apartment in Maiduguri early today by yet to be identified gunmen.
This ugly development is one of its kind, as many believed that most of the daily killings in Borno are only targeted at men and security agencies.
The slaughtering of about twenty different ladies our Correspondent gathered took place in the early hours of Friday precisely at about 1 to 2am when most of residents were still asleep in their houses due to Curfew imposed on the state in the past five months. It is terrible.

OUR OPINION:WE SAW THE FALL AND SACK OF CHELSEA COACH,DI MATEO TWO YEARS AGO. A MUST READ!

Only few could have been surprised of the sack of the Chelsea football coach, Di mateo, after the outing blunder that brought them to the edge collapse in the Champion's league at the group stage. It was quite unacceptable for the football club after securing the long awaited champion's league trophy last season.

And for those who care to know more, this fall is not surprising for some of us who had been following the trend at the bridge for the past two seasons under the current PSG  football club, Anceloti. It became obvious under Andre Villa Boas. AVB alleged that there was a Cabal in the club especially among the so called senior players who would not allow the club to succeed as it should. They held the football club to ransom since the days of  the Brazilian coach, Scolari. They single handedly sent him out of job. This cabal seemed

Rockets and shells crisscrossed the skies over southern Israel and Gaza on Thursday as Palestinian militants continued rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and Israel pounded what it called terror sites.

PETRAEUS: 5 THINGS TO LEARN FROM THE FALL OF THE CIA DIRECTOR

1. Powerful men, no matter how brilliant and accomplished, can suffer from a form of temporary insanity caused by the interaction of arrogance and libido.
Sadly, this is a lesson we see repeated time and time again, across national borders, destroying promising careers and even changing the course of history. Nothing, it seems, not even the highest IQs, the most exclusive security clearances, or the tangible risk of losing it all for the sake of a tryst will stop certain men from pursuing an illicit relationship. Yes, powerful women do it too, but the cases are rare.On the other hand, the parade of men who have destroyed or very nearly killed their careers and their personal lives is endless.

2. Anything you write in an e-mail can be used against you.
Nothing is private, especially not when it goes through Google (Gmail's) hands. If America's top spy, the head of the CIA, can get caught writing secret love letters to his girlfriend on Gmail, nobody's e-mails are safe. Petraeus and his clandestine girlfriend, Paula Broadwell, took some troubles to keep their illicit correspondence safe. They

OUR OPINION: THE PETROLEUM REVENUE TASK FORCE. WHO GOT IT WRONG? RIBADU OR OROSANYE?

It is so unfortunate, that the January subsidy saga could come to this point. The Petroleum Revenue Task Force (18-man committee)  headed by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu officially submitted her  report before the Federal Executive Council last week. And right before the entire house including the President, brouhaha broke out among the 18-man committee on the validation and authenticity of the report. Mr Steve Orosanye made an open challenge against the submitted report, that, some petroleum agencies such as DPR, PPPRA etc were not carried along and some records were not thoroughly verified which made the report incomplete. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu also responded in return that, Mr Steve Orosanye did not even participate in the project as it was expected. That, Oronsanye had some stakes in NNPC in one form or the other.
