Donald Trump accepts nomination, tells Americans 'I am your voice'

The writer of Donald Trump's acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination lauded Trump for sticking to "his vision" and "his words" after the candidate's wife drew fire earlier this week for delivering a speech similar to that of Michelle Obama.

"[Trump's] involved from the point of the blank screen to the very end, at every single level and works on it scrupulously," said speechwriter Stephen Miller during a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity immediately following Trump's delivery of his speech that closed the GOP convention on Thursday evening. "The level of involvement is really extraordinary. It's his vision, it's his words, it's his ideas for the country."

After Hannity mentioned that Trump spoke for "well over an hour," Miller quipped "the speech probably set the record for the most applause ever of any convention speech."
"I don't know the number...but I don't think anybody but Donald Trump could have given a speech like that," said Hannity in response.

Amaechi, Others Paid N100m each to get Into APC- Bafarawa

Former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa has made a serious allegation against the All Progressive Congress, APC.
He claimed that corruption is rife within the party, especially since the acceptance of 5 former PDP governors.
In an interview with Daily Trust, Bafarawa alleged that former PDP governors  Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sokoto), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) eachb paid N100m to join the party.
Bafarawa said “APC government says it is fighting corruption, but it is the mother of corruption. It has been the mother of corruption since the day it opened its gates to those five governors from the new PDP. When the five governors came into the APC, they were warmly received because they had the money to contribute N100 million each.
When I, a founding member and acting chairman of the party’s constitution drafting committee queried why they were expressly allowed entry, I was bluntly told they had money to give. I then offered to also contribute N100 million but my own contribution was rejected. Those five governors entered APC to corrupt the party, and they succeeded in doing so. This is why I say APC is the mother of corruption.

How Hillary Clinton's home in Chappaqua, New York became a tourist magnet

Every weekend, as if it's just another stop on a tour route, dozens of cars pull up to Old House Lane here in Chappaqua to snap a picture of a white gate with a "Hillary" lawn sign.
The cars, usually carrying families or groups of friends, gawk as they drive timidly up the driveway, cautious about breaking any laws or spooking the Secret Service agents they believe could be hiding in the bushes.
Tourists are flocking to Hillary Clinton's New York home, hoping to catch a glimpse of the presumptive Democratic nominee or her husband, the former president.

Niger Delta Avengers’ major logistics supplier arrested

The Nigerian Navy said it had arrested a suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Director of Information, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to Ezekobe, the suspect who was picked up on July 11 at about 11am, is believed to be a major logistics supplier to the group which had claimed responsibility for attacks on NNPC and Chevron pipelines in the region.
“The arrest was made following a confessional statement obtained from an earlier arrested suspect who gave details of the involvement of other collaborators in the attacks.

“Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect recently supplied 10 batteries, five large coils of wire and other materials purportedly used for the attacks,” the director said.
The NN said it would continue to partner with sister security agencies and members of the public to eliminate all forms of economic sabotage such as vandalisation of pipelines and piracy.

Paul Manafort calls the controversy over Melania Trump's speech "not meaningful at all"

Donald Trump claimed the Republican nomination Tuesday after flattening the establishment with his unorthodox campaign -- but his convention is also exposing the downside of his freewheeling approach.
The Trump campaign descended into a familiar messiness after Melania Trump delivered a convention speech Monday echoing lines from Michelle Obama's 2008 convention address.
On the tumultuous day that followed, Donald Trump was furious. Melania Trump was humiliated. And the campaign, which had appeared to be on the path to becoming a more organized, disciplined operation, was back on its heels, dealing with swirling accusations and internal finger-pointing that yielded no real answers about what happened.

There was no immediate sign of a campaign shakeup Wednesday and it remains unclear whether the incident will have a lasting effect.
Trump's campaign chairman Paul Manafort continued to refuse to acknowledge Wednesday morning that parts of Melania Trump's convention speech were lifted lines, saying the controversy is "not meaningful at all."
"The speech was very effective and communicated those feelings," Manafort told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day." "The controversy

Supreme Court Upholds Right of Female Child to Inherit Properties in Igboland

The Supreme Court has voided the Igbo law and custom, which forbid a female from inheriting her late father’s estate, on the grounds that it is discriminatory and conflicts with the provision of the constitution.
The court held that the practice conflicted with section 42(1)(a) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution. The judgment was on the appeal marked: SC.224/2004 filed by Mrs. Lois Chituru Ukeje  (wife of the late Lazarus Ogbonna Ukeje) and their son, Enyinnaya Lazarus Ukeje against Mrs. Cladys Ada Ukeje (the deceased’s daughter).

Cladys had sued the deceased’s wife and son before the Lagos High Court, claiming to be one of the deceased’s children and sought to be included among those to administer their deceased’s father’s estate.
The trial court found that he was a daughter to the deceased and that she was qualified to benefit from the estate of their father who died intestate in Lagos in1981.

The Court of Appeal, Lagos to which Mrs. Lois Ukeje and Enyinnaya Ukeje appealed, upheld the decision of the trail court, prompting them to appeal to the Supreme Court.
In its judgment last Friday, the Supreme Court held that the Court of Appeal, Lagos was right to have voided the Igbo’s native law and custom that disinherit female children.
Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who read the lead judgment, held that “no matter the circumstances of the birth of a female child, such a child is entitled to an inheritance from her later father’s estate.
“Consequently, the Igbo customary law, which disentitles a female child from partaking in the sharing of her deceased father’s estate is breach of Section 42(1) and (2) of the Constitution, a fundamental rights provision guaranteed to every Nigerian.

“The said discriminatory customary law is void as it conflicts with Section 42(1) and (2) of the Constitution. In the light of all that I have been saying, the appeal is dismissed. In the spirit of reconciliation, parties to bear their own costs,” Justice Rhodes-Vivour said.
Justices Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, Claral Bata Ogunbiyi, Kumai Bayang Aka’ahs and  John Inyang Okoro, who were part of the panel that heard the appeal, agreed with the lead judgment.
