NCC arrests bank manager over unregistered internet band

By DAYO JOHNSON
AKURE—A manager with a first generation bank in Akure, Ondo State was, weekend, arrested by the National Communication Commission, NCC, over the use of unauthorised internet facility.
Consequently, the officials of the commission shut down the unauthorised internet link of the main branch of the bank.
The action of NCC officials resulted in long queue on the bank premises and at the ATM machines.
Speaking newsmen after the arrest and shutting down of the internet, Head of the team, Mr. Efosa Idehen, said the internet link being used by the bank was not licensed for it.
Idehen said: “If the bank wants to use the link, it should approach NCC for licence instead of tapping into it without clearance from the Federal Government.”
This, he said has denied the government necessary revenue from the sales of the band.
He, however, noted that “it might not be the fault of the bank for flouting the rule; they should, however, find out from their internet provider before they use any band.”
Idehen noted that “we found this bank transmitting on that frequency band. As at now, they have shut down the link, we have asked them to remove the outdoor and the indoor unit and bring them to the police station. We are going to the police station now to continue the exercise so that we can document it.
“They are there because of the licensable frequency; we don’t want them to be there at all. It belongs to the Federal Government.
“You have to have a licence to transmit on that band, they don’t have a licence or probably the person they are buying for does not have a licence for that band. If they have a licence, when we come here to monitor we know that the band that has been sold or licenced.”
He said they had been to 23 states where banks or financial institutions that violated the regulation of the Federal Government were either shut down or have their operations disrupted.pls share and like our fan page(local and international issues on facebook in order to serve you better) tx
