Our correspondent, who visited the mortuary at the
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Monday, sighted Cynthia’s
coffin at the reception as workers waited for her family members.
One of the attendants,
who spoke to our correspondent
on the condition of anonymity, said the autopsy had been concluded and
the corpse dressed up.
“We have stitched up and embalmed corpse and as you
can see, her coffin is here already. We are waiting for the family to
come and collect it,” he said.
The body was supposed to have been buried last Friday
but the police allegedly refused to release it because the autopsy
report was needed as evidence.
The postponement, according to family members, was necessitated by the advice of security agencies and medical experts.
Last Friday, an interment ceremony was held in her
honour. Cynthia’s father however said when the corpse arrives, it would
be buried without a funeral.
A requiem was also held at the St. Dominic Catholic
Church, Boji Boji-Owa, Delta State, while a ceremony was held in her
honour at her father’s residence on Owa-Ekei Road, Boji Boji.
Cynthia was killed on July 22, 2012, by friends she met on BlackBerry Messenger who lured her to Lagos business purpose.
Meanwhile, two suspects arrested by the police last
week, Nonso Ezike and Gideon Okechukwu, will be transferred to the State
Criminal Investigation Department this week.
A senior police officer at the SCID told our correspondent that the
suspects would also be charged to Yaba Magistrate’s Court before the
week runs out.CULLED: PUNCH
