We
have a dream! A dream of a nation where peace reigns and not violence,
where
corruption is an alien and not a life
style, where bribery is a taboo and not a culture, where leaders lead by
example,
where patriotism is a honor to followers,
where tribe and race don’t determine job positions and placements, where
national interest is placed above individual interest, where elections
are won
without rigging, where losers joyfully rejoice with winners and not a
fight to the supreme court, where a child screams
“I’m blind” when power supply mistakenly goes off at night, where our currency
is most sought after in the global economy, where the fear of God reigns
supreme in the heart of leaders and followers, where oppositions
criticize
constructively and not with bitterness.
A
nation where there is equality, justice and freedom, where government
parastatals are places of optimum service and not for African magic,
where
admission into our higher academic institutions is on merit and not by
VC’s
list, Oba’s list, governor’s list etc, where our national honors are
not only for those guys at the top
but also for that old poor man in my village, where we are not exposed
to
special search at foreign airports, where dignity is championed in
labor, where we are proud to be called Nigerians among committee
of nations, where thanksgiving service is not organized for stealing in
public offices
in our religious outlets and where our colleges rank among the best in
the
world.
A
nation where the government’s performance indicator does not stop at
growth but
development, when acquired grades in our universities are by hard work
and not
by our ability or inability to buy our lecturer’s handout, where our
green
passport is a treasure, a nation where foreigners come to seek jobs,
where our
hospitals are safe havens, where travelers prefer to go by roads, where
resources are utilized efficiently and well managed, where poverty is
history course
we learn in schools, where we are not used as symbols of
underdevelopment on
CNN, where it is a great honor to be called a Nigerian, when you do not
have to
write down your WILL before embarking on our local flights, where we do
not have to run away from
an empty bag by our road side, where developed nation envy us, and where
we sleep
with our two eyes closed. This is the nation of our dream. It is Nigerian
dream.
We
will not get this by violence or through blood shed. It will happen
exactly the
way He did it In Samaria. Those who clamor for revolution do not wish us
well.
Those who preach the use of force do so for their own interest. Let them
start
with their sons and daughters in the front line. Violence has never been
the
antidote. Ask them in Libya. Let the people of Egypt tell you the real
story.
It has not worked in Yemen. The Syrians are treading the wrong path.
Where are
south and north Sudan today? Afghanistan is no where near peace. Iraq
still
remains an unfinished project. Tunisians cannot claim a sleep with two
eyes
closed. Jordan is still a volatile nation. Somalia has never known peace
in
decades. Pakistan is in pain. Seriea Leone has not recovered while a lot
of
Liberians are still refugees. They are all fleshy works. This is because
as far
as Nigeria is concerned, no thing of the Spirit will answer the call of
the
flesh.
It
will be by no one but God. Please do not ask me how. No man will take
the
glory. It will be the Lord’s doing. And it will be in our time. It is by
the
mercy of God.
It
is our 52nd
independence anniversary as a
people. Let us bring our foods. Give to them that have none. Roll out
the drums
as we go in faith with HIM. God bless Nigeria.
The
managing team of Local and International Issues will also love to seize
this
great opportunity to celebrate with the commander in chief, President
Ebele
Jonathan, honorable members of the houses and the entire citizens of our
great
nation, Nigeria, on our 52nd independence anniversary.
We
have been through a lot as a people, starting from the days of civil
war,
regime changes through various coups, June 12 annulment saga to this
current
democratic dispensation but God has kept us together as a people. Though
we
still need to fix our roads, build power plants, improve on our economy,
fight
corruption to stand still, reduce poverty and create of jobs, but we
will get
there. It is closer than we think.
GOD
BLESS NIGERIA
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
