Dog ‘Buhari’ owner’s prosecution is laughable — Presidency

Contrary to the belief by many that the arrest and arraignment of 30-year-old Joachim Chinakwe who had named his pet dog “Buhari” might have been motivated by the President, Mr Buhari has dismissed the actions, saying it is “a ‘laughable incident”,
The Spokesman to the President, Garba Shehu, gave this indication on his twitter handle, on Thursday, saying that, “Those criticising Mr. Buhari for failing to act on the matter were “ignorance of the type of person he is.”
According to Shehu, “He (Buhari) enjoys cartoons and likes sharing them. The ones he enjoys the most are those that caricature him.
“People should listen to the real story behind this dog incident and to not waste precious time seeking the hand of the President in a laughable incident!”
Recall that Chinakwe was released by the Police in Sango-Ota after he agreed with  his accuser not to breech the public peace any further on account of the dog naming issue after due consideration of the circumstances of the matter.
However, the treatment received by the accused in a matter believed by most respondents to be a free expression of feeling which should not actually offend anyone, had triggered angry reactions among the populace, many condemning the Buhari-led government for its high-handedness.
While some began to name their own pets after other popular leaders in apparent protest against Chinakwe’s prosecution, a group of legal practitioners had also thrown their weight behind the embattled fairly-used clothes dealer.
