MY OPINION: THE MISSING CAMEROONIAN ATHLETES, THE SHAME OF A CONTINENT

What appeared as a joke became a reality of the moment, when additional five athletes disappeared from the Olympic camp in London into a thin air to make a total of seven. I wonder how many more will still be missing before the end of the event. These were honorable men and women that were assumed to be the best in a country of about 21 Million people. It is highly disheartening and shameful. What could have happened?
Were they kidnapped in the mall? Did they miss their route in the subway? These are some of the questions in the mind of an average British police now.
I do not think there is a big deal in people trying to deceive others, but it becomes foolish if not a crime, when a man deceives himself. We are Africans. So we know how things are run here and how we do our things. It did not catch us unaware. We saw it coming. Those guys actually ran for their lives to seek a greener pasture. You cannot dwell in poverty for too long and not misbehave when you find yourself in an environment or among people were things are done rightly, where you do not have to bother yourself about the power supply, water, health care etc. Even your body system will respond to the changes. Poverty is the issue here. But unfortunately for them, I think they got it wrong. It shouldn’t have been London. London is a wrong choice. They should have waited for Rio de janeiro 2016, where they could be lucky find their way into the only God own country.  I believe you know where I mean. Why? London city may be relatively small in land mass, but no any other city in the world to the best of my knowledge can boast of the number of CCTV Cameras she has. Not even New York.  Those guys currently hanging behind bars for the last London looting can testify to this. You don’t try it in London. So, I cannot imagine how many surveillance cameras will be on each of the other African athletes now in order to avoid another sudden rapture. It is slap on this continent.
Cameroon is currently ruled by president, Paul Biya. He has been in Power since 1982. Yet, Cameroon is one of the poorest nations in the world with a per capital in come of about $1230 according to the IMF. System and constitutions were alleged to be periodically doctored in order to keep him in office. Corruption is a life style just as we have in Nigeria. So, any opportunity given to any of their representatives is seen as an avenue to carry out a hidden agendum. They go there to embarrass their nation by seeking a better ground. There was even a report that indicated that “Cameroonian athletes have disappeared before during international sports competitions” .What a shame.
The London Olympics will become history in about twenty four hours. Then we can sit back and weight ourselves in the balance. May be it would have been better if we did not participate just as Iran did ( because they felt the 2012 design looks like the word Zion  and  since they would never want to have anything to do with Israel). This is where we have failed as a continent. I hope everyone of us will learn from this and follow the Usain Bolt route (always pointing towards the sky). So that we can all smile at Rio de janeiro comes 2016. You are free to make your comment and do not forget to share this with loved ones. You can also follow on twitter. @t_adenuga.Thanks.
