I have listened to various commentaries on why the ongoing war against corruption and treason should follow the rule of law and why the rule of law should be ignored at this point in time. One even asked me to go and echo “rule of law” to the “internally displaced persons” in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
Various lawyers and some members of the civil society have condemned the attitude and recent statement of the President on the rule of law during the Presidential Media Chat in respect to the court bail declaration on the former security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki and the Biafra agitator, Mr Nnamdi Kanu.
The truth is,
any judgment or decision that
is rooted on emotion does not stand the test of time except one built on national principle which I called the Rule of Law. If we can remember clearly, the four Uniport student that were burnt alive few years back in Port Harcourt. The decision to burn them was based on emotion even if they were truly thieves. And I guess majority of us if not all condemned the incidence then. The truth is, we cannot go against what we swear to defend under any guise and not be perceived hypocritical.
The ongoing war must be seen as a national war that demands all support if our roads and hospitals must be built and not personal if it will sustain the test of time and for us to be taken serious by the international community.
Of cos I understand the pain and impact of corruption on the IDPs and our general wellbeing. But it must be clearly stated that the suspects went through the rule of law and found guilty. This is what will sustain this war. But if PMB is not properly advised, the war will be about him, it will be perceived personal and end with him. The great consequence is this, when PMB leaves the place tmw, you have a risk of losing the steam when another personality mounts the throne. Even Sadam Hussein went through it before he was slaughtered.
This was what collapsed the noise of the EFCC immediately Obasanjo left the throne. It was all about Obasanjo and not Nigeria. Pls, tell the President that we can achieve more on this war when the rule of law is followed. It is not about him but Nigeria.
What we should be laying now is foundation of right things and not just good things. it could be anyone tommorrow which includes you and I.
God bless Nigeria
