WHY WE MUST RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA BY TUNDE ADENUGA

 I will be handling this submission in 3 Parts. The Truth, The way out. The current recession is a warning for us to put things right. If we eventually overcome this, what will come next will be depression if instructions are not adhere to. Prayer is good in everything  but little application of common sense reduces your prayer points.

The Truth

1.       It is very easy to point to corruption as the bane of our development as a people and nation. But we must not forget that something gave birth to corruption. It is called political structure.

2.       The current political and resource structure won’t

take us anywhere as a people no matter the effort of those in charge because no nation has grown under it.

3.       I saw a beautiful development frame work of APC yesterday. Looking at it deeply, all I could see was another beautiful bride in a dirty garment. She won’t thrive.

4.       If you are not an not an enemy of history, you will understand

why this current structure never worked in my next nugget.

WHY WE MUST RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA 2

1.        The Appraisal of the National Development Plans from 1960 to date happened to be my thesis topic in my undergraduate days. I can authoritatively tell you few things.

2.       We have had nothing less than four beautiful National  Development Plans and various points agenda from 1960 to date. The question is , how have we moved under them?

3.       Majority of them failed. The problems had nothing to do with the plans but on the structure that they were laid.

4.       What is wrong with the structure? Pls check the next nugget.

1.       The structure we have at the moment is a centrally planned structure (#Abujadecidesall). Where the FG government takes the shot on everything including resource control.

2.       Therefore, this makes the direct impact of the FG aspect of development gets to that lay man in a remote area in Okoko, Badiya,Alakuko etc. The gives room to diversion and stealing along that long ladder of bureaucracy.

3.       No monitoring structure put in place in the past and now has been able to curb the distortion over time.

4.       Therefore, it gives room to slow or no development ,stealing ,poverty, poor accounting process and finally corruption.

5.        The next nugget will show you the importance of a restructure and why we need it.

Restructure brings specialization

1.       Every state in the United States can produce in terms of capacity what every other state can produce. But there is something called SPECIALIZATION and that is what you get when you restructure. 

2.       If you are interested in business, investment, capacity building etc. New York is your first choice. If you love entertainment, drama, movies and you wanna invest, California is your destination.  You love farming, livestock and crops? You wanna invest or have your dream fulfilled; Texas or Indianapolis is where your calling is.

3.       That is beauty of true federalism. That is why must restructure. 

4.       What can you really say Borno is known for? What is Ogun known for? Adamawa or Kogi? We can't continue like this.

         Restructure brings competition 

1.       California GDP was 2.4 trillion dollars as at the last time I checked. It covers the 3 biggest economies in Africa and countries in the EU put together.  

2.       New York was. 1.4 Trillion 

3.       Taxas was 1.6 Trillion.

4.       California didn't start as a leader. Competition brought it there. Can you mention  1-10 states income rating in Nigeria without visiting google? Difficult right? It is because there is no competition among the states. You don’t even know who you are then than. Everyone runs to Abuja. We cannot continue this way.

5.       The entire American economy as at Dec 2015 was 17.945 Trillion Dollars. Stronger than the entire European Union which includes Germany. Only a through Federalism grows the economy.

       Restructure brings accountability 

1.       It is easier to hold your governor accountable than demanding the head of your President. Even if he must steal by all means, he will be very and extremely careful. It is in that carefulness, that your road is built and hospital fixed.

2.       How many governors have been held accountable directly by the people in Nigeria in history? Everyone of us shouts the name of the President. And the governors have a way of transferring the bulks in our gullibility.

3.       As a way of information, for every N100 the FG receives, your governors take out N49 off it.

4.       This is what the clamour for restructure will eradicate in our system.

      Restructure brings innovation and improve creativity

1.       Our current structure says. “You don't have to work as a governor. Just make sure you are present at the monthly FAAC meeting in Abuja to take from those who worked”.

2.       It also encourages governors to build power plants. But they must send it to the national grid. So that it can be shared by all including those who chose to be lazy. 

3.       The current structure also says to a lazy student, “don't bother reading too much. 180 in JAMB is ok. You will take the place of someone who has 260 under the guise of catchment area.

4.       This is what a restructure will correct. He that does not work must not eat.

        Restructure guarantees security. 

1.       The police commissioner can choose not to obey the state governor directive if he wishes. It all depends on his mood. The President takes all shots. That is what the current structure says

2.       Is it possible to have Lagos Police Dept, Adamawa police Dept, Rivers police Department, Oyo police Dept etc. 

3.       Yes! It is possible. Only a restructure can guarantee you that.

Restructure brings good data management

1.       No nation developed without a good data management system. You cannot plan without it.

2.       Who can boldly tell me the total unemployed graduate in Nigeria?

3.       How many children were born last week?

4.       How many death ?

And you wanna plan?

It is high time we stopped this joke.

WHY WE MUST RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA 10

       Restructure improves national patriotism by reducing sabotage

1.       Sense of belonging is triggered when there is a consciousness that this asset belong to my family. No true son destroy a family asset.

2.       It increases patriotism, loyalty and contribution.

3.       Remember , not everyone who blows up  gas pipeline does it out of hunger. Some are purely sabotage.

This is what true federalism will eradicate or reduce greatly.
