The PDP has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for reversing the
planned introduction of the N5,000 currency note by the Central Bank of
Nigeria.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, gave
the commendation in a statement made available to the News Agency of
Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja.
He described the action as another clear indication of the
responsiveness of the PDP-led Federal Government to the wishes of the
people.
“The PDP-led Federal Government under Jonathan has a listening ear. `Power to the people’ is the slogan of our great party.
“The President has once more demonstrated that this slogan is
inviolable and that under us, power really belongs to the people,’’ the
statement said.
It added that the PDP would continue to anchor
its policies and
programmes on the needs of the people and would not relent in upholding
the interest of the nation.
It stressed that the primary concern of the PDP was to ensure the welfare of the generality of Nigerians.
The statement added that the party was aware that the opinion of the
people in all government policies and actions was important.
This, it said, was a cardinal premise of the party`s manifesto,
adding that it was also the essence of president’s decision to reverse
the introduction of the N5,000 note.
The statement also commended the National Assembly for being the true representative of the people.
the statement expressed optimism that the synergy between the
National Assembly and the Executive was a sure way to ensure the success
of the Federal Government`s transformation programme.
“The critical role of the National Assembly as the representatives of the people, is commendable at this juncture.
“We pay a deserving tribute to the maturity of the leadership of the
National Assembly and the House of Representatives in meeting with the
President and in working together with him to guarantee the best for the
nation.
“There is no better way to express that democracy under our great party as guardian, has come of age,” he stated.
The statement further commended Nigerians for their constructive
criticism of the party`s programme, which it added, was critical to
ensuring good governance.
“Our party appreciates this pivotal role of the public in the making of good governance and shall continue to promote it.
“It is for this reason that we established the Freedom of Information
Act so that every Nigerian will have unrestricted access to information
and be educated enough to make contribution on how the nation is
governed,” it added.
